Meaningful Event from MAKÜ on World Water Day: Biological Diversity Discovery at Yarışlı Lake

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Wildlife Protection, Rehabilitation Application and Research Center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry 6th Regional Directorate, held an event on the occasion of World Water Day.
On Friday, March 22, 2024, at Yarışlı Lake in Burdur, the event organized under the theme "I Wonder How Many Species We Will See Here?" was attended by 6th Regional Directorate Hunting and Wildlife Branch Manager Tamer Yılmaz, technical staff of Burdur Branch Directorate, birdwatcher Mustafa Erturhan, and MAKÜ students.
The Director of the Center, Dr. Lecturer Yasemin Özdemir, stated that they organized the event to draw attention to the importance and sustainable use of water, and that this event also emphasized the importance of ecosystems that meet vital needs such as drinking, feeding, reproduction, and migration of wildlife. Deputy Directors of the Center, Dr. Lecturer Duygu Ceren Çağlan Kaya and Dr. Lecturer Harun Çınar, provided information about the center's activities and goals and thanked the participating students. Following the opening speeches, 6th Regional Directorate Hunting and Wildlife Branch Manager Tamer Yılmaz explained the importance of water in ecosystems such as lakes, rivers, seas, and other water bodies, and their critical role in the conservation of biological diversity, provision of habitats, and delivery of ecosystem services, providing information about Yarışlı Lake.
Veterinary Faculty and Biology Department students participating in the event visited the rock paintings with goat and deer motifs dating back to the Prehistoric period in the region and the strong sources feeding Yarışlı Lake.
